Art and Interpretation: An Anthology of Readings in Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Art, edited by Eric Dayton and published by Broadview Press in 1998. Thinking about beauty, creativity, and the power of art to transform life is as old as philosophy. These topics belong to the arts, they belong to all of the disciplines which make a place for thoughtful reflection on the cultural side of human life. Eric Dayton has designed this book to reflect the needs of a mixed constituency of students in philosophy art history, studio art, music and literary criticism who are engaged by philosophical issues in the arts. He presents fundamental philosophical issues, providing a variety of perspectives on art history. This book is a comprehensive anthology of readings on aesthetics. The editor Eric Dayton is an author, he is a professor and former Chair of the Department of Philosophy at the university of Saskatchewan.
A Historical Introduction to the Philosophy of Mind: Readings With Commentary by Peter A. Morton first published by Broadview Press in 1997 and reprinted in 1999, 2005, and 2007. The approach author came to adopt is to try to show students how the contemporary set of theories and issues arise out of an ongoing process of revising and rethinking previous theories. The idea of putting this material together into a book came up one day when he was chatting with Don LePan of Broadview Press. The issues introduced in this book are today referred to collectively as the mind-body problem. It is a search for answer to the question, “What is the relationship between the mind and the physical body?‘ This search raises such issues as whether the mind and body are one thing or two, and whether artificial machines could have minds. Author hopes that the issues he has chosen provide sufficient background to enable to move on to the other problems without difficulties.
