Prada: Miuccia Prada cited her inspiration as a man poised between power & fragility, hanging in the balance between extremes. Her enigmatic comment cast an illuminating light on the collection we’d just seen. The 1st outfits out were a parka & blouson hanging off the models shoulders on straps. Helmut Lang offered the same idea, but where his version suggested fierce refugee pragmatism, Miuccia's made a nice portrait neckline for her new batch of boychiks. At the same time, there was a hint of tension -suspension - in the idea. It was extended in subtle details like the elastic bands that wrapped shoes or encircled waists.
You could parse Prada collections till hell froze over, so loaded with suggestion are they. The button "buried" in a double-breasted jacket? Margiela explored the idea of the phantom garment. But it doesn't make it any less seductive. The elongated polo layered over cotton smock layered over boxer shorts? It evoked emergency-room or sanitarium whites. What better way to convey the subtext of men in crisis? Step back from obsessive fandom & there were irresistible basics, like a Gap - fine knits, perfectly tailored pants, cotton shirts, denims. A gold latex coat & all this: As the mannequin moved, it trembled, poised between power & fragility .
Burberry Prorsum: For Christopher Bailey latest collection, he imagined the late artist/filmmaker Derek Jarman in his garden at Dungeness, a hardscrabble stretch of English seaside perched next to a nuclear reactor. There was a floppy Panama hat like Jarman’s, prints that looked like raindrops or mud splotches, & a dour color palette that ran a gamut of moss, peat, stone, bark, & pewter.
There was an air of melancholy. Bailey understands that there is sensuality in sadness. The droop of his scoop-neck tops managed to bare the clavicle as a new erogenous zone. Christopher insisted that the collection was actually all about outerwear: trenches, coats, jackets which is why he wanted to let the air in to the skin below. That must have been why, there were also shirts in a washed-out broderie anglaise & wool gauze tees . Christopher Bailey called his collection “Crumpled Classics,” which accounted for the vintage flavor of many of the clothes. It’s pieces that have already acquired a life through being worn & loved. But it is sad, much like the richness of nature surviving in the sobering shadow of the Bomb...

The place to be was inside the air-conditioned confines of New York's Museum of Modern Art, at the dinner honoring philanthropist Donald Marron & director Mike Nichols, guests Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Tina Brown, & Diane von Furstenberg.
Less well ventilated were the after-party attendees They endured stifling temperatures & a brief downpour in the sculpture garden outside. Once the rain stopped & the squeegees were put to good use, they did get to see M.I.A. perform. Claire Bernard, who stayed after dinner to catch the Sri Lankan hip-hop artist's set, said that she had no trouble identifying with the characters in Nichols' movies like The Graduate. Sae said that she might already be Mrs. Robinson. And her godson hooks her up with his friends. He's four.

"Warhol recognized that both fame and money represent power, but of the two he was more interested in fame. Anyone can make money, but not everyone can be famous. For fame to endure, you must create a new idea, performance, photograph, or painting that captures the lasting qualities of both imagination and taste..." Ron Galella wrote in this book.
Ron Galella made his name capturing celebrities in unguarded, private moments. Famously banned from approaching Jackie Onassis & punched by Marlon Brando, Ron Galella was a favorite of Andy Warhol. A. Warhol shared Galella's fascination with the great & near great.
"I never knew that he liked me so much more than other photographers," Galella writes.
This book is the unique visual diary of Warhol's life & times, his haunts & entourage.
"Andy identified with Ron's outsider position. Ron Galella was unwanted - the guy who was always being shooed away and threatened. I think Andy grew up feeling like that. He was an outsider in art school and early on in new York. Even when he became the ultimate insider, he still carries that outsider around with him," Glenn O'Brien wrote in the Foreword. O'Brien worked & played with Andy Warhol as editor & art director of Interview in the late 60s. O'Brien is now "The Style Guy" at GQ & regular contributor to Vanity Fair...

Longchamp opened its 1st USA store on Madison Avenue in 1999 & has subsequently opened stores in San-Francisco, Boston, Coral Gables, Las Vegas & Short Hills. Longchamp was immediately struck by the sheer volume
of this 1936 building, ideally located in the heart of SoHo on the corner of Spring & Greene Street & entrusted its architectural design to the creative eye of London designer Thomas Heatherwick. This up & coming persona in architecture and design, whose style embraces sculpture as much as it does architecture, has united technical challenges with unconventional shapes. The boutique's exceptional corner location allows for the perimend capturing a plethora of natural light that spreads throughout the entire space. The volume of the space is brilliantly and innovatively characterized with touches of humour here and there and is perfect harmony with the key brand values of Longchamp: chic, creativity, pleasure, appealingly fresh.
of this 1936 building, ideally located in the heart of SoHo on the corner of Spring & Greene Street & entrusted its architectural design to the creative eye of London designer Thomas Heatherwick. The connection to the 2nd floor, made by an installation described as a "landscape", is made of steel ribbon strips which provide a stunning grand entrance to the boutique. This installation of ribbon-like forms which cascade down through the core, dividing and converging, make a topography of walkways, landing and steps that connect the street level to the main store on the 2nd floor. This landscape is comprised of 55 tons of hot-rolled steel...

This season, Longchamp goes bold with natural tone fabrics and touches of bright blue, a soft trend embodied with a hint of fantasy. by Pierre Bayard first published by Bloomsbury in 2007.
The New York Times named this book “a survivor’s guide to life in the chattering classes.”
If people are expected to have read all works of literature, & thousands published every year, what're we supposed to do in those funny situations in which we’re forced to talk about books we haven’t read?
This book is witty, a huge hit in France that has drawn huge attention from worldwide critics. A literature professor and psychoanalyst Bayard argues that it’s more important to know a book’s role in a ccollective library than its details. Using examples from Graham Greene, Oscar Wilde, Montaigne, and the movie Groundhog Day, Bayard describes the varieties of “non-reading” & the sticky situations that might confront us. He offers his advice on what to do. His advices are ppractical, funny, thought-provoking.
How to Talk About Books You Haven’t Read is in the end a love letter to books, offering a whole new perspective on how we read and absorb them
He starts his book with Oscar Wilde quotation: "I never read a book I must review; It prejudice you so."
